October 24th, 2009 Make Your Long Distance Relationship Last
Long distance relationships are a really hard thing to live through. If you’ve found someone special who lives in a different city, or have a significant other moving to another city, the idea of a long distance relationship is probably one that causes stress and unsettling feelings.
This is a tough thing to endure, and whether your relationship can last through this testing period or not might depend on one of various factors. Here are a few suggestions I’m going to make that might make your long distance relationship built to last.
Follow these tips closely, as they’re all important ones. I can tell you this from firsthand experience, as I’ve done things right and I’ve made mistakes in my life. Hopefully I’ll be able to help you avoid some of the mistakes that I’ve made.
First of all, make it a point to visit each other regularly. This might not be once a week, as distance would make that impossible in some cases, but maybe it’s once per month or once every two months.
Whatever it is, try to make it as often as you can. They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder, and this is true to some extent, but the phrase “out of sight, out of mind” also holds truth and you don’t want to end up being shelved for someone readily accessible in the other city.
Another tip is to never get angry at your significant other for hanging out with other people. The last thing you want to be is that controlling boyfriend or girlfriend, as this could often lead to rebellion. You don’t want your loved one to feel like a prisoner.
Resist the urge to show jealousy and don’t let your imagination run wild. Trust your loved one just as he or she is supposed to trust you. Like any relationship, one that involves distance must be built on trust.
